Ghanaian footballer Dominic Frimpong has died after suspected armed robbers opened fire at the bus carrying his team Berekum Chelsea back from a fixture.

The team was returning from a fixture when they were attacked by “masked men wielding guns and assault rifles”, officials say. The attackers blocked the bus and opened fire, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes to escape the attack.

One player, identified as Dominic Frimpong, was killed during the attack. He sustained gunshot wounds and died as a result. Several other team members were injured, and some are still missing.
